hardstyle1

As the year zero approached in the Netherlands, some were getting ready for the end of the world, while others were looking forward to a new era; a new era of sound. The year zero brought along a new culture of Dance music that originated from Hard Trance, Gabber, and Rave music. It was influenced by UK Hard House and Jumpstyle, and until today is still uniquely danced – its name is Hardstyle.

Meet this week’s Featured Artist: Martin Solveig

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

martin-solveig
Perhaps it is our well-documented mutual antipathy, or maybe it is our well-
documented ignorance, but Britain’s perception of French music is plain
wrong. On the surface, it is indeed the land that listens to Europap and
still loves to jive badly to La Bamba ‘ but scratch beneath the surface and
you’ll find a wealth of talent gasping for air. It has a long and noble
tradition of fine singers, musicians and producers, from y y to Guy Cuevas,
from Jacques Dutronc to the Saintly Serge Gainsbourg and Jean-Claude
Vannier; from Ze Records to Africanism! and from Cerrone to, yes, Martin
Solveig. Martin Solveig has been involved in music since he was knee-high.

What every House fan should know

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

i_love_houseRight about when John Travolta’s film “Saturday Night Fever” went big, people were taking off their shoes to boogie and getting ready for a new way to get down. Straight from The Warehouse, a nightclub in Chicago that existed from 1977 to 1982, came the soulful and euphoric sounds now known as House.

It was born once the underground scene had already stepped off Disco at the end of the 70s, and was beginning to develop a new style of music that was deeper, rawer and designed to make people dance. It blended soul, R&B, funk, with celebratory messages about dancing, love, and sexuality, all underpinned with repetitive arrangements and a steady bass drum beat.

New Tiesto Album – Out Now!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

tiesto1The fourth studio album by Dutch artist Tiesto Keleidoscope was released yesterday. It is an artist album in the truest sense: a stunning collection of songs written and recorded in collaboration with a variety of music talents from the worlds of dance, pop and rock: Jónsi Birgisson from Sigur Rós, Kele Okereke from Bloc Party, Nelly Furtado, Calvin Harris, Emily Haines from Metric, to name a few. Having made the DJ performance an art form, Tiësto has now made the dance album an art form.
